Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid

At the moment, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (“Lucid”) Brightboxes are in beta test. If you would like to join the test, please email lucidbeta@brightbox.co.uk.

Known issues

  • The handling of the “hosts” file changed after Ubuntu Hardy (8.04 LTS) and currently the output of 'hostname -f' incorrectly displays only the hostname, not the FQDN. We intend to fix this before the final release of Lucid-based Brightboxes.
  • The Brightbox kernel is now 32-bit, to match the 32-bit userspace. This will not impact most people.

Upgrading

At the moment, all newly-ordered Brightboxes are built with Hardy. In the near future, we will offer Lucid as an option, and eventually switch to building with Lucid by default.

Due to the way Brightboxes are built, you can't upgrade Ubuntu inside a Brightbox. Attempting to do so will break your Brightbox - it will not boot and cannot easily be made to boot.

Currently, the only supported way to upgrade is to file a support ticket with us and we'll wipe and rebuild your Brightbox. This will require a few minutes downtime of the box and redeployment of your app.
